Attraction

Stori Brymbo

A renovated industrial machine shop-turned-coffeehouse with the sign Stori Brymbo overhead and a glass entranceway at the front.
Stori Brymbo tells a 314 million year old journey on the site of the former Brymbo Steelworks. The Stori began with an ancient forest full of giant plants and insects which turned into coal under millions of years of compression. The same coal that sparked the industrial revolution and set John Wilkinson on a path to turn Brymbo into a global export of coal, iron, and steel. It was devastating when the Steelworks shut down in 1990, but through determination and community spirit, Stori Brymbo has been transformed into a unique visitor attraction to celebrate the nature, industry, and people that helped shaped it.

About Stori Brymbo

Stori Brymbo tells a 314 million year old journey on the site of the former Brymbo Steelworks.

The Stori began with an ancient forest full of giant plants and insects which turned into coal under millions of years of compression. The same coal that sparked the industrial revolution and set John Wilkinson on a path to turn Brymbo into a global export of coal, iron, and steel.

It was devastating when the Steelworks shut down in 1990, but through determination and community spirit, Stori Brymbo has been transformed into a unique visitor attraction to celebrate the nature, industry, and people that helped shaped it.

Suitable for families, groups, and anyone with an interest in fossils, geology, industry and social history. We are dog friendly and have a state of the art Changing Places Facility.

A girl of around 9 smiling at the camera whilst holding up a fossil she has found.

Also on site is a coffeehouse, shop, events spaces to hire, and art gallery. We host regular community events and activities throughout the year.

Whilst we have made every effort possible to make the site accessible, due to the terrain, there are steep and gravelly sections that may not be suitable for everyone. Please contact us ahead of your visit if you have concerns.

On our extended site, we have Lodge Valley Park, a 24/7 Country Park space for walkers, runners, cyclists, horse riders and more. There is a 2.5km loop which has information points telling more about the history of the Steelworks and showing just how giant and vast the place really was.
