About Dylan Thomas Birthplace

5 Cwmdonkin Drive in the Uplands suburb of Swansea is the house in which the late Welsh poet Dylan Thomas was born and lived with his family for the first 23 years of his life. It is where Dylan created two thirds of his published works. It played a huge part in shaping the style and output of the great Welsh writer.

Dylan was born in the front bedroom of the house in 1914 and continued to live at Number 5 until his parents moved in 1937.

The Birthplace has been restored to its condition in 1914 when it was bought as a new house by the Thomas family.

We guarantee that there will be something that you will see or touch that will provide memories for a long time to come.

The house has a growing reputation for introducing new literary and musical talent from both Wales and the rest of the world.

No.5 is open for house visits every Wednesday and Sunday. The relaxed journey takes you through the beautifully restored rooms to give you an insight into life in the Edwardian era and a perfect starting point to discover just how Dylan was inspired by "...this sea-town..."

Booking in advance is advisable as on occasion the house is required for filming, meetings and other purposes which will mean the inability to host visits at times where advertised.

Afternoon Tea can also be pre-arranged to make your visit just that extra bit special!

The Dylan Thomas Birthplace is unique in that it is also available to stay in overnight throughout the year. When you book the house you have exclusive use during your stay!
